Steve has been involved in martial arts since he was 8 years of age starting with Shotokan Karate.  Steve moved on to Muay Thai whilst at University, eventually beginning the study of Jeet Kune Do and Filipino Martial Arts under Dave ‘Yoda’ Green in 1999.  He also spent a few years training in Capoeira in a vain attempt to look cool to his kids.

Steve achieved his black belt in Dave Green’s Combative Edge Academy in 2002, then later that same year achieved a black belt in Doce Pares Eskrima under Grand Master Danny Guba and Master Andy Gibney, then later still that same year was granted his black belt by Supreme Grand Master Ciriaco ‘Cacoy’ Canete.

After co-founding what was to become the North West England Clan of Dog Brothers Martial Arts with Dave, Steve took over the running of it in 2004 after Dave retired from martial arts, and has kept it going against the odds ever since.

Steve became a DBMA Group Leader in 2006 training under Guro Benjamin ‘Lonely Dog’ Rittiner. In April 2016 Steve became Candidate Hobbit Dog after fighting in the European Gathering of the Pack.

After years teaching in Merseyside and Greater Manchester, the North West Clan has expanded across the River Mersey into Runcorn in Cheshire too in Steve’s glacial plan for world domination.

Steve now divides his time between teaching Filipino Martial Arts full time and being a self employed bicycle mechanic.
